In our industry, it’s normally all about building a lodge for peoples wants. This project was a little different, we were building for peoples needs. What a family need to actually experience a holiday.
Earlier this year, we were approached by Holistic Thinking Holidays who are a UK-based provider of accessible and mobility friendly caravan holidays across England. Offering features way beyond just ‘wheelchair access’, such as ceiling hoists, profiling beds, ramped access and more. Holistic Thinking Holidays wanted us to join them on their mission, of creating a holiday home that was both stylish and fit for purpose.
When you looked at the market for accessible units, as it previously stood, they all felt like a second thought. Most units were old, retrofitted ones that didn’t exactly scream holiday destination.
There was a huge gap in the market for a brand new, stylish, purpose built home that went beyond a ramp and a few grab rails.
In true Beverley form, we proudly accepted this challenge and fast forward to October. We are now the proud manufacturers of a brand new, three bedroom, accessible lodge that is available for bookings on Crowhurst Park!
We attended the grand opening of this lodge on Wednesday 14th October, the event was hosted at Crowhust Park by The Sandcastle Trust who support people of all ages living with a diagnosis of a rare genetic condition, to build lasting positive family memories and strengthen their family relationships, through the granting of Sandcastle Memories. The Sandcastle Trust, along with Holistic Thinking Holidays are the collaborators we have worked with to make this amazing unit.
The day was incredibly special, Clare and Sophie travelled down and heard stories from families who have already stayed in the unit and families that are looking forward to doing so – ‘we’ve never seen anything like this, something that not only feels luxurious, but is also well equipped for what our family need, is life changing’ a quote from one of the family members they met on the day. How amazing is that?
It’s a reminder to the caravan industry as a whole, that we are the ones responsible for change. Caravan holidays should be accessible and enjoyed by every single person, and we simply need to do more than just adding a few rails, a ramp and calling it a day.
